Her art is all about using of toys to create new things, why do you think she does this?
I think Freya Jobbins wants to make uses of the unwanted toys. People tend to spend a lot of money on toys for their kids. Espeically during Christmas, parents would fulfill their kids' wishes and spend money on them. However, they ignore the fact that those kids have a lot of toys in the first place. When kids see their new toys, they would throw the old ones away. This causes a lot of unwanted toys even thought they are new. Freya Jobbins used to toys, kind of like recycling them into something amusing or interesting. She used them as an art material and she wanted to show the recycling culture through visual arts. It is ironic since she used unwanted materials and made her became so famous. Even though her artworks are not interesting, a lot of people could do that as well. However, this is a good way to show an message to people that kids should stop throwing toys and dolls away. They should treasure what they have and parents should stop wasting money on dolls anymore if their kids are going to throw them away someday. This could also show how children are so materalistic. They have the latest phones, the latest toys, kids are spoiled by their parents. Her artworks could show how these unwanted toys could become an artworks, but at the same time, showing the amount of toys that kids threw away.
Do you think using the same material changed the idea or stay the same?
In my opinions, the choice of material changed the idea of the entire artwork. The materials the artist use might cause the viewer to go in depth with the picture. People could know the meanings behind more easily.Artists need to actually consider about the materials carefully before they even make their sculptures or any 3D art works. If they choose a wrong material, people will misunderstand the artwork or get a wrong message instead. It could change or influence the feelings or atmosphere of the art work. In this case, Freya Jobbins is trying to show kids throwing their toys away when they get new ones. For example, if you use pricy lipsticks or jewelleries for your art work, it would give people an impression of "luxuries." If you use used clothes or old used shoes, people would think of "the poors'" instantly.The materials are really important since visual arts, people judge or define an artwork by its appearance or materials. The choice of material can change a person's point of view of the artwork.
Sketch a sculpture portrait you would do with a random material.
If I ever get a chance, I would like to draw a portrait using newspaper. I would make the newspaper into pieces and put them together in different order. it could bring a message to people who see the portrait that recycling is important to us since we are lacking of natural resources, espeically paper. People everyday cut down a lot of trees but they don't know how to treasure what they have. If I use newspaper as a material, even though it might be a bit cliche, but it could bring out the message easily. People think they got to use a lot of materials in order to make an awesome artwork, which I would do the opposite. People would think newspaper are only for reading but not as an art material. It is actually special and unique in a way.
